The judicial custody of five Maoists, including Roopesh, his wife Shyna and their accomplices C. Kannan, J. Anoop and C. Veeramani, was extended till July 2 by First Additional District Judge R. Sakthivel here on Wednesday. They were brought to court amid heavy security by the Tamil Nadu and Kerala police.
The five were arrested by the ‘Q’ Branch of Tamil Nadu Police at Karumathampatty near Coimbatore on May 3 and produced before court on May 4. They were lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison under judicial custody till June 3.
The ‘Q’ Branch here later took them under police custody for 10 days for questioning. Roopesh and Shyna were also produced at a court in Kerala and taken under custody by the police there. The others were lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.

On Wednesday, Roopesh told the judge that they had not given any testimony to the police during investigations.
Public Prosecutor and Government Pleader K. Arumugam argued that the suspects should not be taken to other States as the Tamil Nadu police have to get their signature samples to compare it with the literature and documents seized by the police during investigations.
Mr. Sakthivel said that technicalities in the issue would be looked into when they are produced in court on July 2.
