CPI (M) seeks alterations in checking vehicles for ‘TO’ in Coimbatore

CPI(M)'s most important suggestion was that the police should treat the vehicle users with dignity.

The Coimbatore District Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has made an appeal to the Coimbatore City Police to incorporate a few alterations in the intensive drive to ensure that all vehicles that are sold have received the Transfer of Ownership (TO) certificate.

Misuse

Lauding the drive that is jointly organised by the police and the Regional Transport Office that began last Monday to check theft and misuse of used vehicles, the party felt that incorporating their suggestions would make the drive a successful one.

Their most important suggestion was that the police should treat the vehicle users with dignity.

District secretary V. Ramamoorthi said that some policemen stopped two-wheeler riders using long PVC pipes on the middle of the road. “This forces riders to apply the brakes and balance their vehicles suddenly,” he said in a release.

“There are many private companies that operate vehicles under their banner. Drivers of those vehicles should not be made to wait because those vehicles are not registered in their name. There are many families that have only one vehicle. In such instances, the police personnel should accept any proof produced by the rider to prove that the vehicle is owned by his/her family,” he said.

Verification

Mr. Ramamoorthi said that the vehicle user should be allowed to leave with the vehicle if he/she had all the other required documents.

“The police could conduct verification over phone with the owner of the vehicle and confirm the identity of the rider,” he added.
