CPI block roads

More than 1,000 members of the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Thursday blocked roads at 13 places across the district, as part of the nation wide protest to oppose the Land Acquisition Bill of the Union Government. In the city, 436 activists, including 59 women blocked the roads near the Head Post Office in R.S. Puram, Red Cross building, Singanallur, and Avarampalayam Bus Stand and the Gandhi Statue at Saravanampatty.

In rural Coimbatore, 675 activists, including about 250 women, blocked roads near Mettupalayam Bus Stand, Annur Kai Kaati, Karumathampatty Four Roads Junction, in front of the BSNL offices at Sulur and Pollachi and Post Offices at Kottur and Valparai Thondamuthur.
