A counselling and special guidance programme was held on Tuesday at the Corporation Higher Secondary School at Siddapudur here where students staged a violent protest last week injuring three girl students and damaging the classrooms. The students had alleged that a teacher had indulged in caste abuse by advising a student belonging to a backward community not to mingle with another student, a Dalit.

According to officials, a total of 70 students of classes IX and XI were counselled by Dr. Vijay Kumar from Aram Foundation, which works with the Southern Railway. This was taken up following the orders of Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan.

The counselling would be conducted throughout this week for students of classes IX to XII. It would focus on anger and stress management besides yoga. The school had a strength of 626 students between classes VI and XII.
