A review meeting was conducted by Corporation education officials on Thursday to assess the preparedness of Corporation schools to face the second annual ISO surveillance audit.

Certification

According to officials, of the total 27 schools run by the civic body, eight higher secondary schools have obtained ISO 9001:2008 certification in 2010-11. Though valid for three years, the certification was subject to annual surveillance audit that would be undertaken by the certifying agency. The second audit is due this March. The first re-certification of ISO standards would be done next year.

The performance of these schools in improving pass percentage, the average scores and reducing the drop-out rates were assessed and corrective action suggested in areas the schools were found wanting.

The coordinators from all the eight schools were told during the meeting to focus on documentation.

Apart from the external audit, the Corporation also conducted two internal audits a year in these schools. Further, a management audit would also be performed.

This certification, officials said, is awarded for achieving parameters such as adequate classrooms, laboratories, computers and basic amenities besides academic performance.

Officials said that the whole process was being undertaken upon the instruction of Corporation Commissioner T.K. Ponnusamy. He had also given instructions to ensure all schools achieved higher pass percentage and improved their top scores.
