K. Lalitha, a native of Madurai, on Monday petitioned the District Collector that V. Kumaravel, a Head Constable, divorced her through fraudulent means. She said that he has allegedly threatened to kill her, and their two daughters.
She claimed that he and his family members were harassing her for dowry since their marriage.
Kumaravel, later, became close to another woman. Subsequently, he wanted Lalitha to sign divorce papers.

When she preferred a complaint with a senior police officer, Kumaravel had pretended to reconcile with her. But he had filed for divorce in a family court. He was granted divorce as Lalitha failed to appear in the court during the proceedings.
Following this, Kumaravel asked her to leave his house. Ms. Lalitha claimed that she had approached top police officials but none of them was willing to help her.

The Communist Party of India Marxist — Leninist (Viduthalai) has urged the district administration to relocate the liquor outlets on Vijayalakshmi Nagar in K. Kavundampalayam, and in a commercial complex in Periayanaickenpalayam.
The party’s district secretary K. Balasubramanian said in a petition that the auction for these shops scheduled for November 26 must be postponed.
Ban cell phones
The Bharat Sena has called for a ban on the use of mobile phones in schools, and colleges.
In a petition, district secretary S. Prem Kumar, said that they were a major distraction for the students.
Drainage
The Aam Aadmi Party has urged the district administration to take steps to complete the underground drainage works at Avarampalayam.
In a petition, district secretary S. Mohamed Rafi said that the roads were dug up when the works began four months ago. He asked the officials to revive the practice of sending letters on the follow-up action taken on petitions submitted during the meeting.
Fair price shopsK. Dinakaran, MLA, has urged the district administration to act against irregularities in the fair price shops in Sulur. In a petition, he alleged that essential commodities were not being distributed properly.
He said certain liquor outlets located close to residential areas and in the vicinity of educational institutions should be relocated. Sanitation facilities should be provided at the Kotapalayam Anganwadi.
