Coimbatore Vizha begins with double-decker bus flag off

Weekend packed with a series of programmes across city

Coimbatore Vizha, the week-long annual celebrations facilitated by Young Indians, took off here on Friday morning with the flagging off the double-decker bus service.

Celebrating the strengths, history, and culture of the city, as many as 103 organisations are hosting more than 120 events in Coimbatore Vizha this year.

The double-decker bus will accommodate about 25 people every trip and they can go on a fun ride from VOC Park to Lakshmi Mills and back to the park, enjoying a view of the city from the bus.

The 30 minute ride is only for those who make reservations through the Coimbatore Vizha mobile app. The rides are open from 8 a.m. every day till January 12. Another double-decker bus is expected to be available in the city from Sunday evening.

As part of the Vizha, the weekend is packed with a series of programmes across the city, including rallies, walks, art sessions, games, and tournaments.

Exhibitions, online contests, and special programmes for children and senior citizens are part of the celebrations. Also woven into the schedule of events are educational tours, screening of documentaries, and awareness campaigns.

The Tamil Nadu Agriculture University has an expo of products made by tribal communities till January 12 and will hold a workshop on Friday on tribal arts. A music festival is on at PSG College of Technology till January 7.
