Even though the city achieved the maximum number of State ranks, it slipped several places in the State-wide ranking list in the SSLC public examination results.
The pass percentage was 95.65 this year positioning the city in 11th place, compared to the fifth place last year when the pass percentage was 95.60. While boys achieved a pass percentage of 93.41, girls achieved 97.82.
Of the total 45,643 students who appeared, 43,659 cleared the examinations. Last year, 43,049 students took the SSLC examinations in Coimbatore, of which 41,154 cleared. The total number of schools that sent candidates to the SSLC examinations went up to 510 this year from 502 last year.

As many as 144 Government schools sent candidates to public examinations. Except Municipality and Matriculation, schools of all other managements such as aided, self-financing and Anglo-Indian improved their pass percentage this year, albeit marginally.

A total of 243 schools scored cent per cent pass this year, up by just two from last year. Matriculation schools led the way with 187 hitting this mark, followed by the Government (26) and aided (17) schools.

Chief Educational Officer A. Gnanagowri told reporters that a database of retired Government schools teachers would be created this year.
They would be tapped to conduct special classes or temporarily fill vacancies in important subjects. She also appealed to graduates, even those lacking B.Ed. degree, to volunteer to conduct classes in the Government schools.
