Coimbatore man sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment

A 62-year-old man was convicted and sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment for murder, by the Coimbatore District Court on Thursday.

Murder

According to the prosecution, Ravi Kumar (62), an alms seeker, had killed Murthy, also an alms seeker, on May 24, 2012, by throwing a stone on his head in a dispute over sleeping at a bus stand.

The court, considering the mitigating circumstances of the accused and observing that it was not a pre-planned murder, sentenced the accused to four years RI.

Arrested

The Coimbatore District Rural Police on Thursday arrested four persons on the charge of murdering a construction labourer, Murugesan,

He was found dead near Navavur Pirivu on Marudhamalai road on Tuesday.

The arrested were Somasundaram (27), Saravanakumar (23), Vinoth Kumar (23) and Ramachandran (27).

Killed in accident

A college student was killed in a road accident near Peelamedu on Thursday.

According to the police, Prabhu (22) was on a two-wheeler with his brother Arasu Raj (26).

The vehicle collided with a lorry. Prabhu was killed on the spot.

Arasu Raj is undergoing treatment.
