For commercial buildings, the minimum is Rs. 50,000 a year and maximum is Rs. 1 lakh a year. To ensure the passage of the subject, Mayor, P. Rajkumar, and Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan, said that the civic body has been forced to revise the usage charges and deposit because during the previous administration things were done surreptitiously, which was discovered only later.

The charges will come into effect the day the Corporation publishes the charges in the district gazette. Protesting against the passage of the subject, CPI (M) councillor V. Ramamoorthy (Ward 42), Congress councillors and BJP councillors staged a walkout.
