VKC Group donates books under ‘Read and Rise’ initiative

The Walkaroo by VKC Group, in association with ‘Read and Rise’ initiative of The Hindu Group, donated 2,050 copies of Kalam’s ‘En Vazhvil Thirukkural’ to the students of Corporation Girls’ Higher Secondary School at Oppanakkara Street in the city on Tuesday.

To mark Abdul Kalam’s birth anniversary, the Walkaroo by VKC Group in association with the ‘Read and Rise’ initiative of The Hindu Group donated 2,050 copies of Kalam’s En Vazhvil Thirukkural to the Corporation Girls’ Higher Secondary School at Oppanakkara Street in the city.

The initiative is part of VKC Group’s corporate social responsibility activity. The VKC Group has planned to donate 10,000 copies of the book worth ₹9 lakh to 20 select Corporation schools in the city before this month end.

Earlier, an essay writing competition was held at the school.

About 75 students took part and prizes were given away to winners.

The function was presided over by S. Manoj, Senior HR Executive, VKC Group. In his address, he emphasised that schoolchildren should develop reading habit and start dreaming big to achieve big in their life. School headmaster R. Ravi took part.
