Banned tobacco products seized

The Saibaba Colony police on Saturday arrested Nithyananthan (30), an auto rickshaw driver, for transporting 200 kg of banned tobacco products in his vehicle. The tobacco products were found in 10 boxes of 20 kg each in the auto rickshaw. The police said that the vehicle was checked on Krishna Road near Saibaba Colony when the man was transporting the banned items from Maniyakkaranpalayam to Ukkadam. The police are searching for a person named Amalraj who allegedly sourced the tobacco products from Karnataka for sale in retail stores in Coimbatore.

10 kg ganja seized

Two persons who attempted to smuggle 10kg ganja to Kerala were arrested by the Coimbatore City Police on Saturday. David Kumar (32) from Coonoor and V. Senthilkumar (42) from Veerakeralam were arrested by the Kuniyamuthur police during a vehicle check at Sugunapuram on Saturday evening.

The police said that the vehicle check was conducted based on a specific information that ganja was being smuggled from Palani to Kerala.

The police have also seized the car the two used for smuggling ganja.

The accused are being interrogated for further details, such as intended buyer and source of the narcotics. They will be produced before the magistrate on Sunday.
