The baby girl stolen from the Government Headquarters Hospital in Mettur was rescued by a police team from Kolathur village on Sunday evening.

Pavithra of M. M. Hills in Karnataka gave birth to a baby girl on June 22. A woman posing as a caretaker of a patient in the same ward befriended Pavithra. On the pretext of taking the baby for regular check-up, the woman disappeared on Thursday. The police formed special teams and publicised the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the GH. The local people, who happened to see the pamphlet, alerted the police team led by Inspector Arokyaraj about a woman in Gandhi Nagar in Kolathur. The police personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the baby from the house of Vasantha (32), wife of Ravi, a daily wage earner. The baby was handed over to Pavithra. Police investigations revealed that Vasantha had two sons and was fond of girl children. Vasantha was arrested by the police. Dinakaran, Deputy Superintendent of Police, presented awards to the members of the special police team.
