Autorickshaw drivers told to follow rules

The district police have asked the autorickshaw drivers to follow the rules and alert the local police, if they found the movement of strangers to be suspicious.

A meeting was held here on Tuesday in which Erode Town Deputy Superintendent of Police V. Radhakrishnan asked the drivers not to violate the rules by plying more number of passengers than permitted and also to avoid reckless driving on the road.

He asked the drivers to wear uniforms while on duty and also alert the local police, if they found the movement of persons to be suspicious.

The DSP asked the drivers to maintain good rapport with the public and also asked them to operate their vehicles at the permitted speed.

Drivers were also asked to cooperate with the Regional Transport Officers and the police during vehicle checks and also during emergencies.

The meeting was also attended by commercial autorickshaws drivers, who were asked to avoid overloading of goods in their vehicles so that it leads to accidents.

The drivers were also asked not to operate their vehicles at high speed in narrow roads or in the city roads as various works are being undertaken for development.

‘Re-lay roads’

The concern of many drivers was that most of the roads were in a poor condition and wanted it to be re-laid.

They said that dust emanating from the road and poorly closed trenches after laying drinking water pipelines not only affect them, but also their vehicles.
