The Association of University Teachers (AUT) has urged Governor Banwarilal Purohit to intervene to set right various violations by Bharathiar University. In its letter to the Governor, the AUT's vice president N. Pasupathy said the organisation had constantly been highlighting grave and gross violations of the University’s School of Distance Education.
Corrupt middlemen had infested the Department to the extent that they controlled the franchisee centres with the connivance of former vice chancellors. The AUT’s continuous intervention and University Grants Commission's regulations put an end to franchisee centre-based distance education.
When the University attempted to permit franchisee centres to admit students for the 2018-19 academic year, the AUT had sought deliberations on the issue and taken into account the consequences the move would have. Though the Madras High Court had, in a ruling, vindicated the AUT’s stand on the issue, the University swiftly issued circulars announcing the list of candidates selected for admission to the franchisee centres.

The University, the AUT pointed out to the Governor, had also given nod giving temporary qualification approval for three years for unqualified teachers appointed in colleges with the condition that they should qualify within the period. This was a serious violation and yet another instance of violating the UGC regulations, Mr. Pasupathy said.
