Audiogram unit inaugurated

Kannegi Packianathan, Secretary, Welfare of the Differently Abled Person, Government of Tamil Nadu inaugurated a computer lab, audiogram unit and speech therapy unit in the District Differently Abled Welfare Office at the Collectorate on Friday.

She interacted with the differently abled people, including children, and sought to know from the officials about the functioning of the computers and its applications. Modular Employable Skills (MES) under the Skill Development Initiative Scheme of the Ministry of Labour and Employment will provide training to the differently abled people in fundamentals of computers, Microsoft Word and internet basics for 120 hours. Upon successful completion of the course, a certificate will be issued by the government. The five computers were sponsored by GE Volunteers.

She also inaugurated the audiogram unit and speech therapy unit, sponsored by Nataraajhun Sarojni Charity Trust, which would help in assessing the hearing level of the person. Ms. Kannegi also presented a laptop to a blind student Sekar, studying second year B.A. English Literature at a private college in Pollachi. C.R. Swaminathan, president of Lead India 2020 Foundation, J. Sathish Kumar, coordinator, K. Shankar, Managing Director, Dresser Valve India Private Limited of GE Energy and C. Jasmine, District Differently Abled Welfare Officer were present.
