Anti-poaching watcher assaulted at Valparai

The Coimbatore District Rural Police are on the lookout for the manager of an estate in Valparai and three of his accomplices for allegedly assaulting an anti-poaching watcher and abusing a Forest Ranger.

According to the police, a total of 14 anti-poaching watchers including Kumar were engaged in a patrol along the Valparai-Nadumalai Road on Monday around 4.30 p.m.

They were intercepted by the manager of an estate who asked them about their work.

He then allegedly assaulted Kumar and injured him. Subsequently, K. Arivozhi, Forest Ranger, Manampalli Forest Range, Valparai, came to the spot.

He was also allegedly abused by the estate manager. Kumar is undergoing treatment at the Valparai Government Hospital.

Following a complaint lodged by the Forest Ranger, the Vaparai Police registered a case on Tuesday and invoked Sections 294 (b) (uttering obscene words, in public places), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his/ her duty) and 506 (i)(criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

A hunt is on to nab the estate manager and his three accomplices.
