With the rain continuing across the district and the resultant steady inflow into the reservoirs, the Parambikulam and Aliyar reservoirs are all set to surplus any time.
Though the intensity of the rain has come down, the continuing rain and the resultant inflow into reservoirs continued on Thursday as well.
According to PWD sources, the Sholayar reservoir had 156.11 ft of water as against the full reservoir level of 160 ft, Parambikulam had 71.84 as against 72, Aliyar dam had 119.20 as against 120 ft, Thirumurthy dam had 41.51 as against 60 and Amaravathi dam had 79.31 as against 90.

The surplus water from Parambikulam will reach the Thirumurthy reservoir. Similarly, storage in Aliyar, Siruvani and Pilloor is news for Coimbatoreans to rejoice. While Aliyar caters to irrigation, it also takes care of the drinking water needs of peripheral Coimbatore as well in addition to Pilloor and Siruvani.
These two reservoirs are almost in the brim as of now, thus reassuring Coimbatore with a water scarcity free summer season in the coming year.
While Coimbatore witnessed a clear sky and sunny day on Wednesday enabling people to celebrate Deepavali, city and its peripheral areas witnessed showers on Wednesday night. While the sky remained clear on Thursday morning, showers resumed in the evening.

In the last 24 hours that ended 8.30 a.m. on Thursday, Coimbatore recorded a total rainfall of 33.60 mm and the average rainfall stood at 2.80 mm.
Highest of 8 mm was recorded at Coimbatore South, followed by seven mm in Chinnakallar and 4 mm each at Valparai taluk office and Pollachi.
