Two held in drive against video piracy in city

City Police on Friday arrested two persons and recovered compact disc (CD) writing computer machines and 530 VCDs and DVDs of latest Tamil movies.

In addition to this, the police also found pornographic movies and as many as 1,200 empty compact discs.

Following information that had been provided about a racket that was going on of latest movies being pirated at a house in New Colony – Royal Nagar, Commissioner of Police, C. Sylendra Babu and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), P. Nagarajan constituted special teams to go into the matter and take appropriate action.

House raided

The teams led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, L. Balaji Saravanan raided the house on Friday and found four computer CD writing machines with a facility to write 30 CDs at a time.

The teams seized 530 pirated CDs of latest Tamil films and 1,200 empty CDs and 47 pornographic CDs kept ready for writing.

Police have arrested two persons K. Hakeem (30) of Saramedu and Y. Shajahan of Tippu Nagar in Saramedu.

Police have registered a case under sections 51 (a) (b) & 63 and 65 of Copy Rights Act of 1957 and 292 (A) of Indian Penal Code against them.

City Police have stepped up the vigil and will continue with the drive against video piracy.
