Stalin opens media centre, food court

Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin along with Information and Public Relations Minister Parithi Illamvazhuthi on Monday inaugurated the 12,000 sq ft fully air conditioned media centre established at a cost of Rs.60 lakh for the World Classical Tamil Conference near CODISSIA.

Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi, Union Minister of State for Health S. Gandhiselvan, Food Minister E.V. Velu, Dairy Development Minister U. Mathivanan, former Ministers Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan and M. Kannappan, Special Officer for Conference K. Allauddin, Tamil Development and Information Department Principal Secretary K. Muthusamy, Director of I&PR G. Baskaran, District Collector P. Umanath, Special Officer S. Prabhakaran and Deputy Director Durai Thamarai Selvam took part.

Journalists from Chennai, other districts, other States and overseas countries numbering more than 500 are expected to cover the conference.

Mr. Stalin also inspected the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) with 15 computers established for the electronic media and the web server besides visiting the rooms for newspersons, photo room, video editing room, BSNL control room and press conference room.

In the mediapersons room, there are 50 computers with faster broadband facility for sending news items through e-mail, photo copier facility, fax machine and scanning machines.

For the photographers, a room has been established with 55 computers where they can scan pictures and edit video and transmit them. They can also avail laptops depending on the need.

For the television channel crew, 20 computers with video editing facility and 10 computers for the Tamil Nadu Film Division has been installed. Fifteen computers are equipped with FTP facility.

Twenty telephones have been provided at the centre for newspersons. To ensure uninterrupted service and facility, a BSNL control room has been established and this has ensured broadband connectivity for 180 computers.

Mr. Stalin, before inspecting the conference pandal, stage, exhibition hall and internet conference centre, inaugurated a food court measuring over 50,000 sq ft having 20 catering houses offering more than 354 varieties of food.
