Special teams formed to nab burglars

Coimbatore City Police have formed special police teams to apprehend four suspects involved in a series of burglaries and burglary attempts at houses and shops of goldsmiths in Selvapuram area.

It is learnt that a miscreant gained entry onto the terrace of a house in Selvapuram at midnight on Sunday and attempted to snatch the chain of Mayilathal (52). Following her screams, the neighbours gave a hot chase to nab the miscreant but in vain.

However, burglaries and attempts to loot houses and shops of goldsmith at Muthusamy Nagar, LIC Colony, Thillai Nagar and Indira Nagar were reported on Monday. Forensic experts visited the scenes of crime.

Arrested

The Commercial Crime Investigation Wing Police have arrested Panneerselvam, Secretary of the Valparai Government and Aided School Teachers Thrift Co-operative Society, on charges of misappropriation of funds to a tune of Rs. 4 lakh.

The fraud came to light after an inspection by co-operative department officials recently.

Two found dead

Karthik (20), an engineering student of Ondipudur, was found dead with injuries on the railway track near Ondipudur.

Another person Vithin (25) of Kerala was found dead with injuries along the railway track between Madukkarai and Podanur on Sunday and Monday.

Railway police suspect the victims to be run over by train.

Cases have been registered and investigations are on into the incidents.
