A nauseating smell welcomes the people who visit the computerised reservation centre at the Erode Railway Junction.

Sewage overflows from a clogged storm water drain and stagnates in front of the centre, posing serious threat to the health of the passengers and those who come to book tickets.

“The problem was persisting for the last two days and we have brought it to the notice of the railway officials in the station. But no efforts have been made so far to stop the overflow,” Kulandaisamy, a commuter alleges.

Hundreds of people visit the reservation centre everyday. The path to the centre has turned slushy because of the stagnation of sewage.

Officials keep the platforms and the waiting halls clean. “But they have not done anything so far to address the overflow of sewage in front of the reservation counters,” another commuter points out.

When contacted, railway officials said that they would take immediate steps to stop the overflow and drain the stagnated sewage.
