Second phase of Census 2011 begins

People urged to extend cooperation to enumerators

The Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik fills a census form in Ooty on Wednesday.

By providing the information sought by enumerators about her family, the Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik set in motion the second phase of Census 2011 here on Wednesday.

The second phase of the census that is to be undertaken throughout the country will be called population enumeration.

The first phase of the census, which was called house listing and housing census, was conducted among the people here during the middle of last year.

Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik stated that the second phase of the census operation will go on till February 28.

In order to ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise in all areas, the Collector has urged the people to extend their cooperation to the authorized enumerators who have been provided with identity cards in order to prove their bonafides.

A total of 1,175 enumerators and 196 supervisors are engaged in the operation.

The exercise is of considerable national importance.
