Schools tide over power crisis with back-up facilities

Schools, both Government and private, seem to have taken the periodic power cut in their stride. The recently concluded Plus Two practical examination did not bother them much.

Private school managements said they required power only for the physics and computer science examinations. For the latter, the computer science labs in any case had power back-up from UPS and for physics practical examination, they used generators.

Government schools through the Chief Education Officer's office informed the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation of the practical examination schedule and asked them to not stop power supply.

At the school level, head masters/headmistresses also wrote to the sub-station engineer concerned for help. Heads of a few higher secondary schools said the engineers obliged and that there was no problem in the conduct of the examination.
