An exhibition of rare wildlife photographs commenced at the President Hall on Avanashi Road in the city.
According to N.I. Jalaludeen, President of Nature Conservation Society, the expo showcases 300 rare pictures by Wildlife Photographer S.P. Nagendran in addition to more than 2,000 photographs by wildlife enthusiasts from Coimbatore region. Large number of school and college students visited the exhibition.
The Conservator of Forests, Coimbatore Circle, V.T. Kandasamy said that organising such events to generate awareness among the youth and children is a must to ensure conservation of flora and fauna. He said that various steps were being taken to rope in more people into afforestation for enhancing the green cover. There is a pertinent and urgent need to protect the wildlife to prevent them from extinction. Every individual should make it a point to plant at least one sapling, he said.

An IFS officer on deputation as Passport Officer, Coimbatore, S. Sasikumar, Wildlife Photographer T.R.A. Arunthavaselvan, President of Rotary Club of Coimbatore S. Subramaniam took part.
Earlier, hundreds of students from more than 10 institutions took out a rally to create awareness on the event and the need for conservation of nature.
The rally was flagged off by Inspector of Police T.H. Ganesh and it ended at Red Cross Society buildings. The exhibition will be on till Sunday.
