Normal life was thrown out of gear in Erode as heavy rains lashed many parts of the district on Saturday night and Sunday.
An overcast sky across the district brought constant downpour in many parts, including Erode town, and an intermittent drizzle to a few parts in the district.
Though heavy showers had brought the much-needed respite from the heat conditions for the people in Erode, it had affected the Independence Day festivities on Sunday.

The traditional pomp and show was missing in the celebrations due to continued downpour.
Traffic on many roads in Erode town was so thin as many preferred to stay indoors.
Water-logging was reported from a few parts in the town.

However, the continuous rain had stopped by late afternoon in many parts of the district.
A few parts in the district witnessed intermittent drizzle throughout the day.
Officials in the weather office said that the district would experience moderate to heavy showers for a few more days.
