January 20, 2011 01:38 am | Updated 01:38 am IST - COIMBATORE:

R. Ilamparithi, 26, wanted in a murder case, surrendered before a judicial magistrate here on Wednesday.

The son of the special Sub Inspector Rajendran was wanted for allegedly assaulting, abducting and killing 19-year-old Satheesh Kumar during the New Year celebrations.

City Police sources said Ilamparithi and five of his friends picked up a quarrel with Satheesh Kumar after the latter resisted their attempts to smear cake. This incident happened near P.N. Pudur bus stop on December 31 when the six were engaged in New Year revelry.

The next day, Ilamparithi and his friends intercepted Kumar, assaulted him and forcibly administered a drink laced with cyanide. They then buried his body at the P.N. Pudur burial ground.

Following a complaint, the city police formed a special team and nabbed Karthikeyan, Senthil Kumar, Ganeshamoorthy, Hakim and Vigneswaran. Ilamparthi was absconding, though. After his surrender before the Judicial Magistrate I court, he was remanded in judicial custody till January 25.
