Graduates, interested in taking up postgraduate courses in Malaysia, made a beeline to the Malaysian Education Fair 2010 organised here by the IMTP Consultants (Institute of Management Training and Placement) recently.
Part of a road show, the consultants were here with representatives of universities to counsel candidates on selection of course and university for the October intake. Students had the option of choosing from one of the Malaysian universities or from the United States, the United Kingdom, or Australian universities, who had their campuses in Malaysia.
According to Gigeo Sakkaryas, Director, IMTP, Chennai, studying in Malaysia is becoming quite attractive with easy visa regulations and proximity to India.

“Even those who want to study in the U.S., the U.K., or Australia, choose to study on the Malaysian campus of the respective universities because it is only one-third of the cost. Since the operational costs in Malaysia are cheaper, the courses are offered cheaper,” he said.
That did not mean the Malaysian universities did not have anything attractive to offer.
“Universities like the Universiti Putra Malaysia get grants from the Malaysian Government that are distributed as monthly stipends to students pursuing masters' by research programmes that eventually lead to a Ph.D. There are nearly 250 unique subjects to choose from for research,” Mr. Sakkaryas said.

Even those who were interested in taking up undergraduate programmes visited the fair.
The areas of interest were more towards engineering and information technology.
Candidates were informed about the admission process, scholarships, visa clearance, departure procedures, part- time jobs, accommodation facilities, etc.
