Lawyers in Coimbatore under the aegis of the Coimbatore Bar Association burnt copies of Advocates Act rule book and shouted slogans seeking withdrawal of the amendments to the rules. They also vowed to continue their protest and boycott courts.

Around 200 lawyers led by the treasurer of the Association, S. Elango, staged the protest in front of the integrated court complex here on Arts College Road. The lawyers burnt copies of the statutory rules framed under Section 34 of the Advocates Act.

Mr. Elango said that the lawyers were opposed to the amendments as they infringed their rights.
