Hospital staff placed under suspension; two doctors issued memo

A 11-member team from Medical and Rural Health Services Directorate led by Additional Director Purushottam Vijayakumar conducted a surprise check at the Pollachi Government Hospital on Wednesday and suspended six staff members and issued memo to two doctors.

On instructions from Health Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam, the teams have been conducting raids at Government Hospitals. The exercise is being carried out based on complaints including absence of doctors and corruption charges.

On Wednesday, the team dressed as women entered the Hospital and divided themselves into four teams. One of the teams found that Rs. 10 was being collected from out patients for issue of tokens. The teams immediately caught six staff members - Paramasivam, Damodaran, Muniyappan, male nursing assistant Dhandapani while staff nurse Thenmozhi- was caught for administering injection with out a prescription from the doctors. Another staff member, Lakshmikanth, chief pharmacist was held for non-maintenance of accounts.

Memo has been issued to two doctors for not being present during duty hours. The team has already issued memo to sixty staff members in various hospitals.
