Food packets to be sold at Rs. 30 at conference venue

Chairman of Hospitality Committee for World Classical Tamil Conference and Food Minister E.V. Velu said on Thursday that food will be supplied at Rs. 30 at the conference venue.

Inspecting the food court and counters at CODISSA, he said that marriage halls, designated as mass kitchens, will have a food inspector to ensure quality, quantity and hygienic preparation of foods.

The kitchens are equipped with cooks who could prepare 25 per cent more of the planned quantity in two hours in the event of the need for food goes up. Over 350 conservancy workers will be on duty at the kitchen. The food court on CODISSIA premises and the one in ‘D' hall will provide food to foreign delegates, researchers, paper presenters, participants and on-lookers numbering around 4,500 under buffet system which include vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

The Minister also asked the Corporation officials to ensure adequate availability of drinking water and arrangements for the exit of the water from the hand wash basins. The Minister visited the food courts near the ‘pandal' and planetarium earmarked for the public.

The inspection and review was attended by Principal Secretary to Government for Food, Co-operation and Civil Supplies Swaran Singh, Food and Civil Supplies Commissioner K. Rajaraman, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation Veera Shanmugamoni, Registrar of Co-operative Societies Jatindra Nath Swain, Collector P Umanath, City Police Commissioner, C. Sylendra Babu and Tamil Nadu Hoteliers Association Treasurer, R. Srinivasan.
