Fire at godown

A fire broke out in a godown in Valparai destroying large quantities of cardamom stored in gunny bags. The incident took place at Surili Malai Estate in Valparai on Saturday morning when labourers and residents found smoke emanating from the godown.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel in Valparai were informed and it took more than two hours to put out the fire. Officials said that the cardamom were roasted and were stocked as finished product meant for sale. The exact cause of fire and extent of damage are under investigation.
