Residents of Nanjundapuram and members of all political parties in the area on Monday petitioned the district administration seeking early completion of the road over bridge work in the area.
In their petition, they had said that the “inordinate” delay in executing the road over bridge at Nanjundapuram had troubled the residents. The foundation for the project was laid in March 2010. Then it was said that the work would be completed in 18 months.
As of today, the work was incomplete and there had been no progress in past couple of months. The service road that was offered as an alternative route was too bad. More than 50,000 vehicles owners used the road but it was too congested.

S. Kumar of the DMK said that hundreds of school students used the service road that was full of pits and loose stones. Many had been injured and as recently as a week ago, a road user was injured when a stone, which flew when it came into contact with a tyre, hit him.
People of the area also found it difficult to pass through the area if the crematorium was in use. On many occasions, even drivers of ambulances found it difficult to drive with ease on the stretch.
He said that the residents had asked the Revenue Department officials to expedite the land acquisition that will facilitate construction of the bridge.
