Drinking water has been leaking into a nearby drain from a valve of a storage tank at Varadharajapuram. The water fills the sump that houses the valve, touches the road surface and then flows in to the drain.
R. Rajagopal, a resident who lives close by, says that the water has been leaking for over a week ever since the Corporation staff tried to repair the valve.
The staff had tightened the valve using gunny bags and attempted to fix the problem. But nothing much happened as the water continued to leak.

It’s been leaking for the past week, continuously, and going into the drain that is stagnant, rues Jayaraman K., another resident. It is difficult to see the water getting wasted. The civic body will do well to arrest the leak and use it to improve supply as in the areas in the tank’s neighbourhood, it supplies water only once in eight days.
The residents say they also want the Corporation to clean the drain. With silt getting accumulated, water hardly flows in the drain. This creates foul odour and makes life difficult to those who live in the vicinity, says N. Ramachandran, a resident of Thilagar Street.
The residents say they have taken up the issue with the Corporation officials but were awaiting relief.

Corporation engineers say they have started attending to the leak and they will be able to arrest it by Thursday. The Corporation supplies water to Varadharajapuram, Udayampalayam, MGR Quarters and other areas from the 10-lakh litre tank.
