Differently-abled persons from various parts of the district took out a rally here on Sunday to create awareness among people about the disabilities caused by road accidents and the measures needed to enhance the traffic safety.
Flagged off by Mayor K. Kumar Murugesh at the Muthukaruppan Street, the rally passed through important thoroughfares in the town before culminating at the Corporation marriage hall near the bus stand.
The participants raised slogans urging the people to strictly adhere to the traffic rules in order to minimise the number of road accidents in the State.

They also wanted the governments to provide scholarship to the differently-abled students studying in the private educational institutions.
In another resolution, members wanted the State Government to fill up all the vacancies reserved for the differently-abled persons. Steps should also be taken to shift the Differently-Abled Rehabilitation office to the ground floor in all the district collectorates. Members appealed to the State Government to establish a vocational training institute with boarding and lodging facilities to conduct training programmes for the differently abled persons.
The association also thanked the State government for taking efforts to set up a separate department for the welfare of the differently abled.
