The Tirupur Consumer Voice has expressed concern over the delay in the completion of the road under bridge (RUB) project near Tirupur railway station to connect northern and southern sides of the railway track.
In representations to the District Collector and the Southern Railway General Manager, the TCV secretary P. Somasundaram had attributed lack of coordination between various bodies involved in the project for the delay.

“The Railways have completed the digging of the tunnel beneath the railway track but the highways department is yet to start the work on the approach roads that takes the traffic into and out of the RUB even though the overall work on the project started long back.
“A reply from the Highways Department to our query on the delay in laying the approach roads has stated that it had called for tender only recently which clearly indicates lack of coordination in the execution of the project,” Mr. Somasundaram pointed out.
Another issue raised by TCV members was the need to change the height of the underpass situated between railway level crossings No: 132 and No: 133 in the city.

“If the arch-shaped passageway is changed to a rectangular tube, even the lorries and other heavy vehicles could easily pass through it, thus, easing the traffic snarls otherwise caused on the busy Tirupur-Uthukuli highway at the time of the closing of the two level crossings for allowing trains to pass,” Mr. Somasundaram said.
The TCV had cited the changing of three arch-shaped similar passages to rectangular ones along Chennai-Arakonam sector in record nine hours in 2003 to substantiate their point that the structural changes in the case of the Tirupur underpass could be made easily within a day.
