Collector C. Samayamoorthy on Monday inaugurated the 13-day special field campaign organized by National Child Labour Project (NCLP) to create better awareness among the public on importance of eradicating child labour from the district.

NCLP project director D. Vijayakumar said that as part of the crusade, NSS volunteers from Krishna Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, would perform street plays on the titles ‘Kalaintha Kanavukal' and ‘Pillaikal Enke' at various designated locations across the district.

Besides, they would try to pick out the school drop outs from the villages visited.

“Parents of such children identified will be told the ill-effects of child labour since the school dropouts were considered as potential child workers,” Mr. Vijayakumar said.

On the inaugural day, the NCLP team visited Velliyangadu, Rakkiapalayam and Nallur situated in the city outskirts.
