Test results received here on Monday from the National Institute of Communicable Diseases in New Delhi confirmed that 11 persons have tested positive for the A(H1N1) influenza. These include two doctors, health officials said. These cases add to the four declared on Sunday.

Three men, one woman doctor, six girls and a boy were declared flu positive by health officials on Monday. The Coimbatore Medical College Hospital sent for tests the throat swabs of seven persons — three women, including a doctor, two men and two boys,

Collector P. Umanath told journalists that all the patients were stable and asked people not to believe rumours that two persons had died because of the flu. “There is no need to panic,” the Collector told journalists after inaugurating an orientation meeting at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for government and private doctors on combating and preventing the flu.

On the delay in the arrival of the results from the NICD, Dr. Umanath explained that this was because of a number of samples flowing into the institute for tests every day. With the government having approved a private laboratory in Coimbatore to carry out the tests, people can approach it if they had symptoms of flu.
