57 parakeets rescued

The birds were rescued and taken Coimbatore Forest Range Office for assessing their health and rehabilitating them.

The Rose-Ringed parakeets that were rescued at Ukkadam in Coimbatore on Monday.

A team of non-governmental organisation activists and Forest Department officials on Monday rescued 57 Rose-Ringed Parakeets that were being kept for sale here.

Environment Conservation Group received information that parakeets were being sold on the roadside near Ukkadam. A team led by its president R. Mohammed Saleem accompanied by a Forest Department team found a woman selling the parakeets. She had confined the birds in a small cage. The birds were rescued and taken Coimbatore Forest Range Office for assessing their health and rehabilitating them.
