40 sovereigns of jewellery stolen from house

Burglars broke into the house of Rangarajan (56), who is into plantation and real estate business, at Kumaran Nagar in Ganapathy area and decamped with 40 sovereigns of jewellery.

Rangarajan, hailing from Udumalpet and having business at Kotagiri, is settled at Saravanampatty area of Ganapathy since his son was employed as a software engineer in a firm there.

The family had gone to Palani and since the return journey was getting late, they had chosen to stay at their house in Udumalpet and reached Coimbatore on Monday to find the side doors of the house broke open.

It is learnt that the burglars consumed the eatables in the refrigerator and ransacked the almirah before taking away jewels. Gold coins weighing 15 sovereigns tied up in cloth were left behind by the burglars.

City Police Commissioner T.P. Sundaramoorthy and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police P. Sundaravadivel have pressed forensic experts into service. Finger prints had been lifted from the scene of crime and special teams have been formed.
