10 lakes to be desilted under Kudimaramathu scheme in Dharmapuri

Collector S. Malarvizhi inspected Kudimaramathu works undertaken under the various Ayacut associations here on Tuesday. The works are being implemented at ₹4.97 crore in 10 lakes in the district.

Earlier, Ms. Malarvizhi inspected the works under way in Sogathur Lake, Pulikkal Lake., Sikkadhimmanahalli Lake and Kownachiamman Lake.

According to the administration, in 2016-17, desilting work was taken up in 21 lakes at a cost of ₹158 lakh; in 2017-18, the work to clean up 10 lakes was taken up at a cost of ₹327.65 lakh. Further this year, works are being undertaken in 10 lakes.

As of date, 30% works have been completed. In Annasagaram Lake, encroachments would be removed in the next 20 days, said Ms. Malarvizhi to the reporters on the sidelines of the inspections.

The works are being undertake by the respective ayacut associations that stand to benefit from the water bodies. The works that are being undertaken include desilting, bund strengthening, canal desilting, deepening, removal prosobis julieflora among others.

Farmers and public in need of silt may contact the village administrative officer, revenue inspector, or tahsildar concerned.

Of the lakes, Pulikkal Lake had not been desilted in 20 years.
