The Pakistan High Commission has taken up with India the issue of a criminal case filed against cricketer Shoaib Malik, who is scheduled to marry tennis star Sania Mirza on April 15.
High Commission sources said they were in touch with the External Affairs Ministry on a direction from Islamabad and were “making all efforts to get him out of the fiasco.” The sources claimed that Indian authorities had assured them that Mr. Malik's passport would be returned soon. The police took possession of it, following a complaint of cheating and harassment by Hyderabadi girl Ayesha Siddiqui, who claims the cricketer has already married her.In Islamabad, rights activist Ansar Burney said he planned to visit India to meet “both parties and dig out the truth” about Mr. Malik's reported marriage with Ms. Siddiqui. Ms. Siddiqui's mother had “invited him to India with a request to ensure justice to her daughter.”
