Citing the opposition of the former Telecom Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Arun Shourie, to the setting up of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into the 2G Spectrum scam, the Congress on Wednesday said that the BJP had not been able to justify its demand.
Terming Mr. Shourie as an eminent journalist, party spokesperson Manish Tewari said the former Telecom Minister “has possibly correctly pointed out that the Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the issue should continue.”
Mr. Shourie has told a newspaper that the JPC “is not the right demand at all” and that the Supreme Court should monitor the investigation in the 2G Spectrum case.

The BJP, the Shiv Sena, the JD(U) and the Samajwadi Party have been insisting on a JPC probe into the issue, a demand which has not been opposed by any other Opposition party.
The Congress spokesperson said the matter was already under the investigation of the CBI and the Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG) had submitted a report which would go to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) as per the constitutional process.
“When two parallel and concurrent investigations are already going on, what purpose the third investigation would serve is something that the BJP has not been able to answer,” Mr. Tewari said.
