A glistening find in Panna

June 30, 2010 10:07 pm | Updated 10:07 pm IST - Bhopal:

A 34.37-carat diamond was found during mining operations by the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) in Madhya Pradesh's Panna district on Tuesday.

“This was the biggest diamond found at Asia's single mechanised diamond mines in Panna,” said NMDC project manager in Panna, C.E. Kindo.

The NMDC had earlier found a 32-carat diamond in the Panna mine and auctioned it for Rs.95 lakh. But that “was not as clean as this one,” Mr. Kindo said.

The price of this diamond will be worked out at the Mumbai commercial office.

The exploration work by the NMDC in Panna was re-started 10 months ago.
