As Russia plays host to the world, here are some tips for football fans on getting around

Football fans travelling to Russia’s capital city Moscow will have plenty of attractions to visit, apart from watching the football matches. If you’ve already drawn up a list, make sure that Moscow’s metro rail system and stations are among them.

These are no ordinary, dingy subway stations. Adorned with frescos, art works that are a window into rich Russian cultural history, and walls lined with marble surfaces, the train stations themselves are worthy of being tourist attractions. There are guided tours that take international travellers to the best of train stations across Moscow.

The 12 million local population relies on the metro rail system to navigate the city through the day.

To make things easier for international travellers arriving for the football season, the metro rail is now having announcements in both Russian and English at train stations and inside the trains to announce the stops, reports Lonely Planet.

Detailed maps that show the location of the stadiums, ticket offices and other festival zones are also available in English.
