Agro Super Bazaar is a one-stop centre for farm-based products, gardening implements, plants and preserves

Want to taste the traditional scented rice from Wayanad? Drop in at the Agro Super Bazaar at East Fort.

It is a one-stop shop for farm-based products and agricultural needs has opened shop opposite Fort Mission Girls' High School. The variety, affordability and quality of the products make the bazaar, a government venture and a first of its kind, under the auspices of Kerala Agro Industries Corporation, worth a visit.

At 3,200 square feet, the store has ample space for shoppers to move around in leisure and comfort. Systematic shopping aisles with large boards announcing the varieties of products and items available at the bazaar make shopping at this outlet a breeze as you don't have to end up hunting for the things on your list.

In the food department, one can find different fresh fruit squashes and jams – you have everything from pink guava squash, passion fruit squash to tomato jams and guava jelly. The fruits used for these products are sourced from farms at Nelliyampathi. The wide range of pickles and fruit juices, launched by Agro Industries Corporation, are available under the brand name ‘Jyothi.'

Honeyed goods

You can buy find bottles of honey that come in flavours such as Ginger honey, Tulsi honey and Garlic honey. Varieties of flours – ragi, corn and wheat – are also available as are varieties of rice and spices. The traditional scented rice from Wayanad is a hot seller at this outlet. There are also snacks like cocoa crispy tender coconut chips, for instance, and ice creams on the shelves.

An ethnic corner displays and sells a variety of kitchen implements and utensils such as bamboo puttu steamers, earthen pot wares and wooden ladles. There are also hair oil kits, kunthirikkam , vetiver , incha , honey soaps, bee wax pain balm and more.

The showroom also houses tractors, power tillers, machinery for small-scale industries, pump sets, sprinklers for irrigation, vegetable and fruit seeds, medicinal plants and pesticides.

Gardeners will have a good time at the bazaar as there is a wide range of gardening tools, both Indian and imported, and varieties of manures and fertilizers. Right from watering cans, neem cakes, ready-made potting mixtures and floral foams for flower arrangement, to water hoses, pruning knives, seed trays, sickles and pots are for sale.

All types of lawn mowers operated manually, electrically and petrol-based are available. Moreover, drip and sprinkler systems would be installed at home on request.

Those seeking help to install biogas units at home and public places can approach the technology unit at the bazaar. The bazaar also has a service section for repair and maintenance of all agricultural implements. Farmers can hire agriculture machinery from a hiring centre attached to the Agro Bazaar.
