Shriya Bhupal’s new collection is a re-interpretation of Bohemian fashion of the late 60s

On her Instagram account, Shriya Bhupal hints at Bohemian vibes for her new collection to be unveiled at the Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2018.

Shriya calls this line ‘haute bohème’ and defines it as “a perfect reflection of the new age femme-preneur (female entrepreneur) - a brazenly independent girl whose energy and grace is framed in this season’s romantic silhouettes derived from the late 60s.” She emphasises that the new line is understated and graceful.

The Bohemian way of life has inspired fashion designers over the decades. Shriya was keen on incorporating Bohemian vibes into her collection as she feels women tend to be more carefree and easy with their fashion choices in summers, “I think my interpretation of the Bohemian theme is very different while we still stick to our classic ways.” The main inspiration, she says, come from the colours and use of mirrors: “I worked on juxtaposing that with different textures and 3D florals, feathers and fringe.”

For her signature label Shriya Som, the designer has experimented with playful ruffles and fringe tops now and then; in this summer line, expect more of it. ‘haute bohème’ will use tulle/net, organza and a range of flowy fabrics. Having worked with monochromes, Shriya was keen on including the right tones of yellow as well. “It took me three to four months to figure out which shade of yellow I like,” says Shriya.

Shriya Bhupal’s designs are flaunted by A-list actors as well as a well-heeled, fashion-conscious young clientele. But she doesn’t intend to restrict her line to a younger age group. Her label’s popular fringe cape, she points out, can be used in different ways: “I might style it with a short dress and my mom might wear it with a sari or an indo-western outfit.”

This will be Shriya’s first solo show at 6DegreePlatform for LFW and she calls it an exciting and nerve-wracking experience: “It’s only our third show and we’ve barely been in the business for four years. Planning the entire decor and design of the space is new to us,” she says. Her label will showcase 24 looks with Bohemian and resort wear sensibilities.
