If you’re looking for a wardrobe makeover this summer, MaalGaadi’s newest additions might be of interest to you.

With a variety of new brands added to the store’s roster, you can be sure to find chic blazers favoured by actor Taapsee Pannu (HERA by Aj), or blinged up earrings worn by Sonam Kapoor on the runway (Vaidaan Jewellery).

These labels, all in Chennai for the first time, will have you ready for your next wedding, vacation or day in. Here are three to pick from:

Simmi Saboo’s nearly four-year-old brand made a splash at last month’s Lotus India Fashion Week, with actress Kritika Kamra walking the ramp as showstopper.

It’s the same collection that will be making an appearance in Chennai. Labelled ekya (Sanskrit for ‘amalgamation of two cultures’), the collection comprises of silhouettes that are “boho and free-spirited”, according to designer Saboo.

“All our work is based on digital prints: we work with silk bases, and this time around, we chanelled our Indian aesthetic,” she explains, adding that the motivation for her label stemmed from the lack of comfortable clothing options whenever she had to attend a function in ethnic wear.

“These shape-friendly silhouettes are designed for the Indian customer who wants to be comfortable,” she says. Prices start at approximately ₹11,000.

Joey and Pooh

Remember the headband craze that model, and social media ‘bawse’, Chrissy Teigen unleashed upon the world late last year?

Her ‘headband of the day’ series (available on her Instagram highlights) from Bali gave everybody major #goals, and now with Joey & Pooh’s eclectic mix of turban headbands, you can have your pick too.

With prices starting at approximately ₹2,500, casual options abound. But if you’re thinking of ditching the tiara for your next ball (or wedding), why not go with the ivory headband, handcrafted, and studded with pearls?

Ankita Studio

This eponymous brand churns out breezy silhouettes from Ankita Chowksi, a corporate lawyer-turned-designer, whose first studio was her grandfather’s warehouse.

The Spring Summer 2019 collection pays homage to mulmul , the soft cotton muslin. Pieces from the collection have wanderlust-inducing names like ‘Mykonos dress’ and ‘Teepee dress’, and feature light pastel hues.

These are perfect for your next getaway, whether it be to the Greek Isles, or to Puducherry. The collection is priced at ₹6,500 upwards.
