The chocker has made a comeback with a lot more style and attitude

When you begin spotting a retro trend over and over again on Instagram,it’s proof that the trend has gone mainstream. That is precisely the case with chokers — the 90s trend. It has made a comeback and done so in a totally new avatar.

So bid goodbye to the plastic stretchy neck accessory and say hello to ribbons and leather straps for the perfect choker.

As the good old 90s style returns to the spotlight, Instagrammers are popularising them by accesorising with every look, from swimwear to formal attire. Impossible to ignore, right?

In any case, new age chokers are so stylish and chic that they make an instant fashion statement.

Who’s on to it

Fashion trend analysts say, ‘The choker began its resurgence with slip dresses, grunge and all of the other 90s trends that reemerged during last autumn’s catwalks. But unlike other throwback trends, this one has carried on to spring, with brands from Saint Laurent to H&M proposing fierce new options both at the high end of the industry and on the high street.’

You can spot several celebrities sporting these chokers off-screen. Actors Alia Bhat, Shraddha Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha as well as Hollywood divas like Taylor Swift, Kate Hudson, Rosie Huntington have been making these fashion statements on the red carpet. The choker adds an edge to their full length gowns and simple bandeau tops alike.

How to style it

The styling trick, it seems, lies in what you team your choker with.

The best way to flaunt the choker is with an off shoulder top, a slip dress, or just something that exposes the rest of your décolletage to balance the skin to fabric ratio and avoid seeming like you are just wearing a turtleneck.

Though the black chocker is the most commonly seen piece of casual jewellery/accessory, some like to go for jewelled or a little flashy ones. While it might seem easy to pair a black chocker, shiny chokers can be paired with just a few dresses for special occasions.

The plain slender satin or lace ribbon choker is also referred to as the slimmest neck scarf and is an ideal informal accessory. In case you want the instant grunge look, go for the choker.
