Bailey hopes the move will allow him to focus more on the longer formats of the game

Cricket Australia says George Bailey has resigned as Twenty20 captain to concentrate on next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup and first-class cricket for his home state of Tasmania.

CA said in a statement on Sunday that Bailey has made himself unavailable for selection for Australia’s T20 international matches on the upcoming tour of the United Arab Emirates against Pakistan and Australia’s three T20 internationals against South Africa in November.

Bailey will continue to play and captain the Hobart Hurricanes in the T20 Big Bash League and for IPL team Kings XI Punjab.

Bailey scored 12 runs in Australia’s six-wicket loss to South Africa in the one-day triangular series final in Harare, Zimbabwe on Thursday.

Cricket Australia said it will name a replacement T20 captain soon.
